Stays: Agoda
Our journey began on the bustling island of Bohol, where the influx of tourists and daily flights from South Korea left us craving a more off-the-beaten-path experience. Seeking solace from the crowds, we boarded a ferry from Tagbilaran, Bohol, to the serene shores of Siquijor, Philippines. Little did we know, this island would capture our hearts with its tranquil beauty and hidden gems, especially in terms of accommodations through Agoda.
Our first discovery was the InSense Mountain Resort, perched atop a hill with sweeping vistas of Siquijor's lush landscape. Although we typically opt for more modest lodgings, the allure of this recently renovated resort, under new ownership, was irresistible. Surprisingly, we secured a room for less than $40 a night, treating ourselves to a touch of luxury without breaking the bank. The panoramic views from our room served as a daily reminder of Siquijor's enchanting allure.
However, our penchant for variety led us to explore other accommodations during our two-week stay. Our next stop was Shambala Paradise, a secluded retreat boasting just one cottage but arguably even more breathtaking views than our previous abode. Nestled conveniently close to San Juan, the hub of restaurants and amenities on the island, this oasis offered both seclusion and convenience. Kevin, the amiable owner, and his wife Beth, welcomed us warmly, ensuring our stay was nothing short of delightful. We even shared memorable evenings, enjoying cold beers on the terrace of our cottage, exchanging stories late into the night. At around $30 per night, Shambala Paradise provided exceptional value for its idyllic setting.
Eager to continue our exploration, we turned to Agoda once more and stumbled upon Mhari Bungalows, nestled near the heart of San Juan. One of the two apartments, perched atop a flight of stairs, was still available, offering yet another picturesque view. Despite its proximity to the bustling center of San Juan, the tranquility enveloping the bungalows was a true delight. Priced at approximately $35 per night, we enjoyed a pleasant stay, although the apartment's snug quarters made it better suited for shorter stays.
Our journey through Siquijor's accommodations was a testament to the island's diversity and charm. From the heights of Sense Mountain Resort to the serenity of Shambala Paradise and the quaint charm of Mhari Bungalows, each lodging offered a unique perspective on this tropical paradise. As our adventure unfolded, we realized that the true magic of Siquijor lies not only in its natural beauty but also in the warmth and hospitality of its people, making it a destination we'll cherish forever.
Our journey wouldn't be complete without a taste of budget-friendly hospitality, which we found through Agoda at Uptown Guesthouse. Despite its basic amenities, this guesthouse offered everything we needed at less than $25 per night. The friendly staff went above and beyond, allowing us to store our luggage before check-in and arranging transportation when it was time to depart for the Siquijor port.
So, whether you seek luxury or simplicity, seclusion or sociability, Siquijor has a place for every traveler to call home amidst its idyllic shores.
